But they switched to an app, and I got a general update for two days and nothing for the next couple of weeks, so I had no kind of daily report for an extended period of time. The teachers started off doing daily sheets, which I loved when they were filled out.
Precious Gems is a new business and it seems it is still trying to work things out. There was no explanation for having a different morning teacher every single day for the last two weeks we were there. Also, my 2 y/o daughter came home repeating negative things during that stretch of random subs (for example, she came home saying, “Sit yo butt down.” We are very deliberate about the language we use around her child, so she didnt hear anything like that from us). How could you truly vet them? I asked about the subs three total times, and my husband asked once or twice. I was told they use a sub service, but I wasn't comfortable with a different teacher every single day. It was an immediate turn off and I couldn't with a good conscience keep her there while the administration worked that out. They seldom introduced themselves or looked presentable for working with children. The last two weeks or so that my daughter was there, there was literally a different substitute teacher, who I'd never seen, every morning in her classroom.
I asked if there was a teaching transition because there was a lot o f change and I wasn't comfortable with the inconsistency. For a few weeks, there would different teachers in my daughter's classroom. I left because I was uncomfortable with one of the business practices that I couldn't get a straight answer about. The class sizes are small, so that can be a plus, but the 1s and 2s are in the same space. It is spacious and clean, and it does attempt to mimic the structure of larger daycare centers. Precious Gems is a cost-friendly, family-run daycare.
